- UoC's SLMC recognition status is not yet confirmed — this must be checked before any Sri Lankan student commits to MBBS.
- Without SLMC recognition, graduates cannot sit the ERPM exam required to practise in Sri Lanka.
- Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM) has indicatively been SLMC-approved and actively recruiting Sri Lankan students — confirm its current status too.
- If MBBS recognition isn't confirmed, UoC's pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy and psychology programmes remain worth considering separately.
If you're a Sri Lankan student considering MBBS at University of Cyberjaya (UoC), the single most important check — before fees, before the 2026/27 intakes, before anything else — is whether the programme is recognised by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC). This guide explains why, and what we do to verify it for you.
SLMC Recognition: What to Check
The Sri Lanka Medical Council maintains its own list of foreign medical schools it recognises for the purposes of licensing graduates to practise in Sri Lanka. Recognition is granted to a specific institution and programme, is not automatic, and can change over time — so a school being reputable in Malaysia does not automatically mean it's SLMC-recognised. That holds even though UoC's MBBS is MQA-accredited through December 2027 and the medical school is WDOMS-listed: those are Malaysia-side and international baselines, not an SLMC decision.
Before you commit to MBBS at UoC (or any Malaysian medical school) with the intention of practising in Sri Lanka, confirm the institution's current status directly on the SLMC's list of recognised foreign medical schools, or ask us to check it for you as part of a free eligibility review.
The ERPM Exam
Graduates of SLMC-recognised foreign medical schools must pass the Examination for Registration to Practise Medicine (ERPM), commonly known as Act 16, to gain provisional registration with the SLMC and practise in Sri Lanka. Only graduates of recognised schools are eligible to sit it — which is why the recognition check above comes first, not the exam itself.
The Competitive Landscape
It's worth knowing that Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM) has indicatively been SLMC-approved and actively recruiting Sri Lankan students, including offering tuition discounts for early applicants — confirm current details with a counsellor. This doesn't tell you anything about UoC's own status, but it does mean Sri Lankan families researching Malaysian medical schools should expect to compare recognition status directly, programme by programme, rather than assume all Malaysian universities are treated the same by the SLMC.
If UoC Isn't Currently Recognised for Medicine
If UoC's MBBS turns out not to be SLMC-recognised at the time you apply, that doesn't rule out UoC altogether. Its pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy and psychology programmes are separate accreditation questions with their own regulators, and may be a strong fit depending on your career goal — see our UoC pharmacy guide and UoC psychology guide as starting points. We can talk through both the medicine pathway and these alternatives with you.
Indicative Cost in LKR
| Item | Indicative figure |

About Studies in Malaysia
Studies in Malaysia is an education counselling service helping Sri Lankan students verify medical-school recognition before committing to a programme abroad. We check the current SLMC list directly, rather than relying on brochure claims, and discuss alternative UoC programmes if MBBS recognition is unconfirmed.
Student counselling and admissions are managed by Boomerang International Educational Services (Australia).
Get Your SLMC Recognition Check Before You Apply
We verify the current SLMC status for MBBS at UoC (and any other Malaysian medical school you're considering) — free, before you commit to anything. Here's what happens after you enquire:
- You tell us you're a Sri Lankan student considering MBBS.
- We check the current SLMC list for University of Cyberjaya's status.
- We explain the ERPM pathway and what it requires.
- If UoC isn't currently listed, we discuss SLMC-recognised alternatives or UoC's other health programmes.
- You decide whether to proceed — no obligation either way.
This guide does not claim SLMC recognition for University of Cyberjaya — that status is unverified and must be confirmed directly with the SLMC before any student commits.
